Key West is filled with so many amazing activities and attractions that making your itinerary can sometimes seem overwhelming. However, having so many adventures to choose from means you won’t have any trouble finding memorable things to do during your stay at The Paradise Inn. One thing every visitor should experience at least once is spending time at Dry Tortugas National Park, a fantastic spot for snorkeling, fishing, and more.

How to Get to Dry Tortugas

Dry Tortugas is about 70 miles from Key West, so it does take a bit of planning to add this adventure to your itinerary. The two main methods of transportation are ferry and seaplane. The National Park Service has a ferry that departs daily from the ferry terminal in Seaport. The price for the ferry ride includes the entrance fee, breakfast, lunch, and snorkeling equipment.

Another option is a seaplane charter from Seaplane Adventures. With both full-day and half-day excursions, you can pick an option that lets you spend as much time at this national park as you’d like.

What to Do on Your Day Trip

When you visit this 100-square-mile park, you are near some of the best snorkeling spots in the area under the shadow of a historic fort. There is no shortage of things to do, which means there is something for everyone in your group.

  • More than 300 species of birds have been spotted on the seven tiny islands that make up Dry Tortugas. The park is an excellent place to do a bit of bird watching, and the types of birds you may see change with the seasons.
  • One of the top adventures you can do here is go snorkeling. Experience the colorful underwater world filled with living coral and tropical fish. The shallow waters make this an excellent spot for everyone, from beginners to experts.
  • Those who take the ferry can join a 45 to 60-minute guided tour of Fort Jefferson. Learn about the history of the fort from one of the expert naturalists. If you did not come by ferry, you can download a self-guided tour to explore on your own.
  • If you want to relax, lounge on the sandy beaches. Search for shells, go swimming, or soak in the sunshine sunbathing.
